FAQ

Common Questions

Do I need WiFi or internet at the trap location?

No. OcuTrap uses cellular (LTE-M) connectivity. The same network your phone uses. As long as there is any cell coverage in the area, OcuTrap works. No router, hotspot, or internet connection required at the trap site.

What volume discounts are available?

OcuTrap offers multi-trap discounts applied automatically at checkout: 1–2 traps at $499/ea, 3–4 traps at $449/ea (save $50/trap), and 5 traps at $399/ea (save $100/trap). Shipping is $34.99 per trap in the U.S. and $50 per trap to Canada. Need 6+ traps? Contact sales for a custom invoice.

Is a platform subscription required at purchase?

Hardware and platform access are billed separately. You can purchase traps first and activate $29/month per active trap or $225/year per active trap during setup. Each active trap needs its own plan for cellular alerts, capture photos, and fleet management.

How long does the battery really last?

In typical use (1–3 alerts per day, moderate temperatures), the built-in rechargeable battery lasts about 3 weeks per charge. Frequent alerts, cold weather below −10°C, or heavy photo uploads will reduce this. Battery is field-serviceable: swap it in the field without tools.

Do I get a photo with every trigger?

Yes. Every trigger sends a capture photo to your phone so you can verify the trap state before driving out. Photos are stored in the app alongside the trap ID, GPS, and timestamp for your records.

What is the shipping policy?

The R1 is in stock. Orders ship within 3–5 business days, and you will receive tracking as soon as your order leaves the warehouse. Shipping is $34.99 per trap within the U.S. (all 50 states) and $50 per trap to Canada (duties and import fees not included).

What warranty and return options are available?

Every OcuTrap R1 includes a 1-year hardware warranty covering manufacturing defects and field-failure repair or replacement. You also have 30 days from delivery to return hardware in original condition for a refund. Defective-on-arrival replacements ship free within the U.S. Contact support@ocutrap.com for warranty claims or return eligibility. Contact support before returning hardware so we can confirm eligibility and issue a prepaid label when applicable.

What subscription plans are available?

Hardware and platform access are billed separately. Platform plans are $29/month or $225/year per active trap and cover cloud connectivity, alert delivery, capture verification workflow, and ongoing device management. Prepay the first year with your hardware order and the annual plan drops to $199/year per trap.

How do I set up my OcuTrap?

Every purchase includes dedicated onboarding support. Our team will walk you through setup, app connection, and alert configuration for your specific routes. Whether you are managing a single trap or an entire fleet, we will make sure you are up and running smoothly.

How is capture photo data handled?

Capture photos are transmitted over encrypted cellular connections and stored in your OcuTrap account for verification and records. Access is limited to users on your team dashboard. We do not sell trap imagery or location data.

Does OcuTrap support multi-user team dashboards?

Yes. One account can include multiple operators with role-based access. Platform pricing remains per active trap ($29/month per active trap or $225/year per active trap) — there is no per-seat dashboard fee for standard team access.

Are tax-exempt purchases available?

Tax-exempt nonprofits and shelters: email support@ocutrap.com with your 501(c)(3) documentation before checkout.

What happens if I cancel my platform plan?

The hardware continues to work as a local trigger sensor (you will hear the trap fire if you are nearby), but cellular alerts, photos, and app features will stop. You can reactivate at any time.

Who uses OcuTrap?

OcuTrap is trusted by pest control professionals, TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) programs, animal shelters, wildlife management agencies, and property managers. Whether you are running a commercial pest control operation or a community cat program, OcuTrap is built for your workflow.
